Rehabilitation and Repatriation
Programmes covers the following areas:
A few success stories that Vatsalya has been instrumental in and continues to do so.
Repatriation back to the family:
It happens in any phase of the intervention. The children are provided with counseling, education and vocational training for healthy rehabilitati repatriation. The organization also facilitates union with families or joining group homes.
Case study – Ms Ansari was brought from Gujarat to Mumbai by her grandmother to work. They used to sell vessels in exchange for new clothes. They stayed on the footpath and she was constantly harassed by the boys. The social worker managed to counsel the Grandmother who after a lot of coaxing finally allowed her to return home. She returned to Gujarat, her native place where she has started going to school.
Group Homes:
Case study - Group home is an important strategy for rehabilitation older children and youth to the mainstream society. A group of older children, who are somewhat financially independent, rent a room in the locality. TVF plays the role of facilitator where it motivates the children and youth to move from the street to a room, helps them in searching accommodation and in handling day to day issues. This programme helps them to learn to be independent and to live harmoniously in a community.
Self Employment:
Case study - Akram Pathan was abandoned by his father and this forced him along with his brothers and mother to stay on the footpath. After a few days his mother abandoned them too ad went back to her native home. When contacted by The Vatsalya Foundation he had no job and was homeless. The organization helped him to get into the catering business and now he handles a team of workers. He not only has been able to sustain himself but also generate employment for others.
